The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS (Super Sport) is a highly sought-after and iconic muscle car from the golden era of American automotive history. It was available in various trim levels, including the SS 396 and SS 454, each denoting the engine displacement.

  1. SS 396: The Chevelle SS 396 featured a 396 cubic inch (6.5L) V8 engine as its centerpiece. It was available with different power outputs depending on the specific option package and configuration. The base engine offered 350 horsepower, but there were also higher-performance versions available, such as the L34, L78, and LS6, with power outputs ranging from 360 to 450 horsepower.
  2. SS 454: The Chevelle SS 454 boasted a larger 454 cubic inch (7.4L) V8 engine, which provided even more power. Similar to the SS 396, the SS 454 came with different engine options. The base engine produced 360 horsepower, but there were higher-performance versions as well, including the LS5 and LS6. The LS5 offered 360 horsepower, while the legendary LS6 delivered a whopping 450 horsepower, making it one of the most potent factory-built muscle car engines of its time.

In addition to the powerful engines, the Chevelle SS featured other performance-oriented components and options. These included heavy-duty suspension, upgraded brakes, dual exhaust systems, functional hood scoops, performance-oriented rear axles, and various visual enhancements like SS badging, sport stripes, and distinctive trim.
